Ace Nigerian Hip Hop artiste, Ice Prince has finally weighed in on the comment by Afrobeats superstar, Wizkid that “rap is dead”.
The Aboki’ hit-maker said that as opposed to what many believe, Nigerian rap is up and active so nobody should tell him ‘nonsense’.
Ice Prince named some of his colleagues in the hip hop genre who are keeping the game alive, such as Phyno, Blaqbonez, Erigga, Olamide, Zlatan, Falz among others.
He wrote; “OLAMIDE, ODUMODU BLACK , LADIPOE , BLAQBONES , SDC , PHYNO, REMINISCE, MI , DJ ABBA, ZLATAN, FALZ, VECTOR, CDQ, KESH, ERIGGA, YP, JERIQ, AJEBO, CLASSIQ, DREMO, ABSTRACT, DIZZY, SKAA , LAIME , ZILLA, BANKZ, Mr Shalli Shalli…… Nigerian Rap is up up up don’t tell me nonsense !!”

South African rapper, Nasty C also countered the controversial assertion by Nigerian Grammy winner, Ayodeji “Wizkid” Balogun about rap being dead.
He stated that contrary to what Big Wiz opined earlier this year, Hip Hop might have taken the backseat in mainstream music now, but it will never die.
The 25-year-old hip hop artiste made this remark in an interview with Glitch Africa while weighing in on the rap debate sparked by Wizkid.
Nasty C said, “I don’t think rap or hip-hop will ever die, man. It’s more than just music. It’s more than just a sound. It’s a way of life; it’s a culture.
“It might take the backseat, you know what I mean. Fresh sounds are very important to keep the culture alive. You know what I mean? As Africans we are very diverse, man.
“We’ve all these different sounds that we need to take out to the world so that they understand that we are super talented. So, hip-hop will take the backseat for a little bit but it will never die. Trust me.”
It may be recalled that during an interview with 10 magazine months ago, the “Essence” crooner said rap is dead while arguing in favour of Afrobeats dominating the Hip Hop genre.
According to the Starboy Entertainment founder, the Nigerian Hip Hop artistes mostly rap on the same beats, and they have similar styles.
Wizkid later went online and described Nigerian rappers as ‘non-rappers’ who lack development and he listed South Africa’s Nasty C and Ghana’s Sarkodie as the ‘real rappers’ in Africa.
